Gratitude - breaking it down

Joy. Pleasure. Experiencing goodness in this world. Living a Yummy Life.

These are things I’m passionate about.

Gratitude is essential in savoring all of the above.

Through gratitude we’re able to be present and appreciate

(What we appreciate, appreciates #wink)

Except for too long gratitude has turned into this shallow bullshitty thing that makes people cringe but that’s not what it’s about at all

That shallow level of gratitude is on the frequency of

-placating the situation

-sweeping hard things under the rug

-invalidating AF

-makes you feel smaller rather than expansive

It can sound like “well you want this…but billy bob Joe doesn’t even have that. You should be grateful for what you have.”

Instead of being appreciative, it puts you down.

So how do we rework & rewire gratitude?

Research by Brené Brown reveals that joy one of the most vulnerable feels we can can feel.

When we’re fully present with our joy, beloved relationships, our passion + life’s work - it’s so vulnerable

We may simultaneously kick up our fears

  • The fear of losing it

  • The fear of not being able to have it again

  • The fear the other shoe is gonna drop

Gratitude is the medicine to this. Creating space for this vulnerability to awaken.

Holding ourselves in this vulnerability,

being held in this vulnerability,

holding another in this vulnerability

*cue Delicate by Taylor Swift*

When you embody this presence and gratitude, you’re able to feel how effing important this thing is to you.

You communicate to those who’ve lost that thing that you understand the magnitude and value of this experience. Gratitude acts as a bridge in this way.

FUNWORK: Here’s your invitation to lean into gratitude as you’re reading this.

Take a deep breath, and for a moment, ponder about what is bringing you joy, ease, satisfaction, laughter or another positive sensation.

Bring one of these things into focus. Really see it, hear it, feel it in your minds eyes.

Breathe into this focus, feel into and think about the specific benefits of this in your life. Maybe place a hand on your heart, and inhale, exhale,

That’s how you shift into the frequency of gratitude.

Have a Yummy Day
